The person behind it

Why this exists

I'm Hank Elsner. I have a blue-collar day job, a family, and a stubborn habit of building things at night. ZOLTAN is one of those things — and this page is the honest version of why it's here.

The short version

I'm trying to buy back days. Every day I'm not on a job site is a day I can spend building — on my own projects, and increasingly on other people's. That's the whole ambition. Not a lambo, not an exit. Days.

Said plainly

The work I'm trying to buy time for lives at hankelsner.com.

What I actually build

Infrastructure, mostly. The unglamorous kind that other people get to use without thinking about it.

The part nobody puts on a landing page

That last one costs money. Servers, domains, mail, storage, API keys, the odd on-chain fee — it averages hundreds of dollars a month, and I subsidise essentially all of it. Nobody who uses my infrastructure gets an invoice. That's a deliberate choice and I'd make it again, but it's paid for out of a working man's paycheck, not a treasury.

I keep it running because I said I would. Projects I've shipped, I maintain. That matters more to me than shipping the next one.

Family, and why the honesty isn't a marketing angle

I have a three-year-old who has her own app on a locked-down tablet — counting, letters, cartoon animals, no internet permission, because I built it that way on purpose. I have a household that runs on a budgeting app I wrote. My kid's going to be able to read this site one day.

That's genuinely why ZOLTAN's disclosure page leads with everything I could do to you rather than burying it. I'd rather build something small and straight than something big I'd have to explain later. The whole point of this token is that the dangerous configuration is on the table, face up, with my name on it.

Why crypto at all

Because it's a genuinely interesting engineering problem and it's fun. I like that the ledger doesn't care who you are. I like that you can verify a claim instead of trusting a press release — which is exactly what the verify page is for. And I like that a person with a day job and a decent VPS can build something real.

Building this is the most fun I have all week, and every hour of it is an hour I would rather be doing than overtime.
